Daniel Malan, director of the Centre for Corporate Governance in Africa at the University of Stellenbosch Business School (USB), has been appointed by the World Economic Forum for his "thought leadership" in the required field.

Malan, who has recently returned from a visit to the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Values in Decision-making 2011, will serve as an advisor along with other global experts. The council members are appointed for a one-year term (1 July 2011 to 30 June 2012) and engage through virtual interactions and during the Summit on the Global Agenda 2011 to be held in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (10 to 11 October 2011).

Prof John Powell, director of the USB, says the appointment is an important milestone for the businesses school. "I am most proud of Daniel's success and of the evidence of USB's influence in the world".

Each of the Global Agenda Councils, comprising 15 to 20 relevant experts, serves as an informal advisory group to the World Economic Forum and, through the Forum, to the international community.

The councils represent the world's foremost interdisciplinary brains trust of innovative thinking and idea exchange on global issues. They unite the world's most relevant experts, including business and government leaders, in an ongoing, comprehensive and co-creative process to monitor and address global, regional and industry challenges.

The councils continue to provide insights and recommendations and contribute to a number of Forum activities, including industry projects, annual and regional meeting programmes and the Risk Response Network. In addition, they continue to provide policy recommendations to international organisations.
