Blending the spiritual with the commercial is a time-honored tradition. Best-selling authors like Norman Vincent Peale and Og Mandino have shared their inspiration for decades. Of course, most of that was from a traditional Western perspective. To even the scales, we now have a chance to see how Eastern spirituality can improve our business lives. Based on the fundamental principles of the Buddhist Eight-Fold Path, one of which is to treat all living beings with compassion, I encourage you to ask the question: “Is my business enterprise or any job about more than greed?” To be clear, the fundamental challenge of blending commerce and spirituality is not the exclusive domain of Buddhism. Right now there is a strong spiritual revival in Christian and Jewish communities as well as the Buddhist community, and every religious community is concerned with the spiritual deficits of free market capitalism, the conflict between compassion and greed. It’s a very human problem. Part of us wants to take care of our brothers - and the other part wants to live in an $8 million dollar mansion with a heated swimming pool. Watch for my next email on the Eight-Fold Path… I believe you’ll find it illuminating. To Business Zen and Beyond… ~ Allan N.B. You have been sent this because of a connection to Allan Holender.
