Prepare: • Work through the material and write down as many questions as you can that relates to it. Print each question onto a colourful card, grouping the questions into colour coded sets. Make sure you have 6 or a multiple of 6 cards (ie 12 or 18 etc) in each set.• Buy a number of large dice, enough so that you can give one to each group of six learners. • Find a whistle, gong or buzzer that you can use for time keeping.
Run the activity • Divide learners into teams of six. Ask teams to name the tallest person in their team #1, and then to allocate a number up to 6 to each team member. Invite teams to give themselves a name.• Hand a set of cards and a dice to each group with the following instructions for Round 1:
Your task is to correctly answer all the questions in your set of cards. You will each take a turn to throw the dice and to pick up a card. You then respond to the question as best you can – and the person whose number is identified on the dice is responsible for checking that your answer is correct. (If you pick up your own number, throw the dice again.) The rest of the group are responsible for confirming that the answer is correct. You have one minute to reach an answer for each question and I will sound the buzzer at the end of each minute. That is the signal for the next person to pick up a card, throw the dice and so on. If you cannot answer the question, put it aside. • After 6 minutes, stop the activity and get feedback from the groups. Each correct answer gained scores one point - write the scores up on the board. • Collect the unanswered questions from the groups and give them the following instructions for Round 2:
Here are the troublesome questions from Round 1. I am going to read out each question to you and you will then, as a team, have the chance to find the right answer. Write your answer on a sheet of paper. When I say GO you have 2 minutes, as a team, to find the answer. • Collect the answers and read them out aloud. Teams that answer the question correctly earn an extra 2 points for that answer.• Continue until you have worked your way through all the unanswered questions and then tally up the results. If you like you can award a bag of sweets to the team with the highest score – or give everyone a small chocolate for participating in the activity. • Conclude the exercise by giving everyone a handout containing all the questions from the game and encourage them to use the questions for their final revision.
