Training Training Articles A diverse idea for introductions

Written by Karen Gray

Begin this activity by saying:
We all come from different places – different religions, cultures, countries. Most importantly, we are all products of our families where we have enjoyed traditions and celebrations that often shape our cultural and religious backgrounds in a unique way.

Think about one example of your culture, family traditions and/or religious festivals that you would like to share. Then turn to your neighbour and describe these experiences. Find out ways in which your traditions are different from those of your neighbour. (3 minutes)

After three minutes, continue the activity as follows:

Now let’s hear each person introduce his/her neighbour. Share with us one interesting thing that you learnt about your neighbour’s traditions or culture.

(Thanks to Shameela Bantho for inspiring this idea.)
