The benefits of business coaching

A business coach can narrow your focus, spark creativity and provide the tools you need to grow by tapping into stores of experience and knowledge. If you are curious about the role of a business coach, read more about the value that these experts can bring to any business.

The purpose of a business coach is not far removed from the function of sports, financial or personal coaches. Coaching is defined as the practice of supporting an individual or group, through the process of achieving a specific personal or professional result.

A professional sports team without a coach would be viewed as peculiar, yet many businesses operating in the big leagues go through the motions without a guiding principle to steer the company in the right direction.

Despite the obvious need for guidance, managers and leaders remain cautious when it comes to employing business coaches and question the value and benefit of what is seen as an additional expense.

Here are some benefits of small business coaching:

1. Focus

A business coach can help you to focus or zoom in on the important aspects of the business. They can “come into your business and help you to pinpoint the areas that you need to focus on”. By looking at specific departments, processes or areas in the business they help you understand critical points in your business where the right changes will result in the highest impact with a minimal amount of effort.

2. Brainstorming

Coaches can assist with the brain storming process, and help to develop ideas that have been blocking your growth. They can develop “creative and innovative solutions to problems’. They are able to bring out your creativity and spark the solutions that have been weighed down by the everyday concerns of business.
Many times leaders struggle to find their way around a problem, but a business coach is able to tap into their store of business and life experience as they have “been down the path that you are going through”.

3. Systems

Coaches can help your business grow by ‘developing proper systems’. This is like building a puzzle. When you are a child you start at any point, but as you grow up you learn to look for key pieces. In the same way business coaches are trained to look for specific building blocks that will help your business grow. Coaches can help you understand how to fit all your pieces together in the right way.

4. Tools

They can provide you with tools. Business coaches have access to technology that your business may not have, particularly if your business is new. These tools will enable you to test and implement systems rapidly, saving time and narrowing the gap for mistakes to occur.
