NIMS, an internationally recognised and accredited developer of precision manufacturing skill standards and competency assessments, selects the top performing lecturers from across the globe each year, rating them according to the achievements of their students. Mr Ebrahim is one of the lectures for the National Tooling Initiative Programme’s (NTIP) TDM Powered Programme, which aims to prepare and empower students and industry incumbents for further training to qualify as artisans or engineers and to enable them to pursue exciting careers in a wide range of industries such as the automotive, aerospace, mining, defence and electronics industries. Dirk van Dyk, CEO of the NTIP, said that he was extremely proud that during the first year of the TDM Powered Programme’s existence, one of its lecturers – and his students – could achieve global recognition. “On behalf of all the NTIP staff and management we would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all the Lephalale students for this outstanding achievement,” said Van Dyk after the announcement. “You have demonstrated great commitment and enthusiasm and have shown the rest of the world that South African’s aspiring toolmakers are a force to be reckoned with.” Mr Ebrahim said he felt humbled and very happy to be selected as one the best in the world. “This award shows the confidence that our global peers have in the South African toolmaking industry, and the fact that our standards of teaching are being held up as amongst the best in the world is a great honour. “Hard work and dedication from my students was the best motivation for me, and it is no wonder that the class achieved a 92 % pass rate last year,” added Ebrahim. “I’d like to dedicate this award to the Lephalale class of 2010 and NTIP’s management – for giving us the opportunity to unleash and display our African capabilities on an international level.” About the National Tooling Initiative The National Tooling Initiative (NTI) is an initiative that has, as a national objective, the rehabilitation of the South African Tool, Die and Mould Making (TDM) industry and thereby contributing to a strategic growth stimulator for Manufacturing and Technical skills development. The NTI has been developed as a national, multi-stakeholder initiative and structured as a Public Private Partnership (PPP), working with the Department of Trade and Industry. TASA (Toolmaking Association of South Africa) has played a founding role in the establishment of the NTI. A subsidiary of TASA, NTIP (Pty) Ltd was founded and is acting as the Management and Delivery Agency for the NTI. |
