Life Coaching Life Coaching is the most common form of coaching and is geared towards the life improvement and personal skill development of the individual. As a life coach you will help your clients better understand themselves and their motivations, and will assist them to move their life forward with purpose and direction. You will not only help them to achieve their goals, but enable them to accomplish a great deal more. The life coach should have no preconceptions, nor should they judge or criticise. They act merely as a channel through which their client can understand themselves better, realise their skills and talents, and achieve their goals. It’s essential for a life coach to be able to communicate effectively and offer support without judgement. They should be good listeners, and be able to commit to a relationship with their client that may be intense and demanding, but be able to let it go at the right moment. Business Coaching Coaching in the corporate world involves life coaching skills plus an understanding of the business environment and business coaching models. You will have to put plans and strategies in place to take your client’s business to the next level. You will have to understand the intricacies of a business plan, cash flow and financial statements. Business Coaches work with their clients to set personal and business goals. They provide logical, structured activities to motivate their clients and enable them to achieve success on a personal and business level. It’s important for business coaches to understand the work / life balance and the principles of time management. In addition, experience in marketing, advertising or sales is advantageous. Leadership Coaching Another aspect of business coaching involves working with corporations in order to train managers, executives and mentors in leadership and management skills. Part of this coaching involves training managers to motivate and communicate with their staff and provide effective mentorship. Coaching and mentorship programmes work best in goal-oriented organisations. Alternative Coaching There are additional forms of coaching based on techniques like neuro-linguistic-programming (NLP). These require a thorough understanding of traditional life coaching principles, plus a deeper knowledge of NLP and associated techniques.
