![]() How often have you set new years resolutions that you break before the month of January is through? Personally, I have lost count! I have been pleasantly surprised by how many people in my inner-circle decided not to make resolutions this year. Isn't it better to swap party induced new years resolutions for a well considered, planned and executed goal strategy? As I spent time setting my goals - using some of my favourite tried and tested tools - I decided to share some tips with you. Goal Setting Tips:1. Get yourself into a positive mental state: It's really important to get yourself into an inspired, positive and relaxed state before writing goals. You can try meditation, listening to inspiring music, exercise, reading or listening to an inspirational story, or prayer. Or attend a Key Steps Workshop! 2. Get out of your comfort zone: Your comfort zone can work against your desire to reach your goals because it holds you in place instead of urging you forward. In order to change your tendency to stay comfortable you need to be conscious of your actions and thoughts. 3. Align personal and business goals: If your work goals will require 60 hours per week to accomplish and a personal goal is to be home every day by 5pm, there's a conflict that needs to be resolved. Align goals with your core values. 4. Live YOUR life: Make sure you set goals that are YOUR goals! No "should wants" allowed. Only authentic, value, principle based goals qualify as YOURS. 5. Project yourself into the future: The late, great Earl Nightingale conducted much research that shows "We Become What We Think About." Begin to walk, talk and act as though you are already experiencing the success you seek. Then, those things will come to you naturally through the power of the subconscious mind. 6. Use a Journal: Use a journal to keep track of your goal setting journey - during our workshop "Set & Achieve Your Goals", we will go into detail on how you can harness the power of writing your goals down. 7. Ask yourself good questions: As you think about your goals, instead of WISHING for them to come true, ask yourself HOW and WHAT you can do to make them come true. 8. Commit and persist: Decide that you are willing to pay the price required for reaching your goals. Success sometimes requires that you commit and persist even when things get difficult. 9. Take action: The journey of 1,000 miles began with 1 Key Step! 10. Develop an attitude of gratitude: Count your blessings. Be grateful for your triumphs on the road to achievement. And also remember to be grateful for the tribulations that help you grow and develop your strength and character.
